We are closely monitoring the current situation involving the H1N1 virus or swine flu. The safety and security of our scholars and staff is always our highest priority. Please be assured that we are keeping a close eye on the situation through contact with the U.S. Department of State, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. We are also working closely with all of our housing sites and site visit locations to ensure that the necessary steps have been taken to protect our scholars and staff. While there have been reported cases of H1N1 in New York, they are localized to an area of the city that we do not visit, and there have been no reported cases of H1N1 at any of our facilities in New York or in any of our other program locations. Additionally, all scholars and staff travel by private motor coach during the program and do not take public transportation.
At this time, all program sessions for the summer are scheduled to run as planned, and all cancellation and refund policies, as noted in program materials, remain in effect. As updated information becomes available, we will continue to communicate with you should there be a change in the status of the program this summer.
Any questions or concerns about influenza or other illnesses should be directed to a medical professional.
To help protect your health, here are some steps you can do both before and while traveling:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
- Use alcohol-based hand cleaners and gel sanitizers.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- See a medical professional if you feel sick.
