The National Young Leaders Program (NYLP) introduces promising elementary school students to eight key leadership traits that are critical to their success in their education and beyond: teambuilding, goal setting, communication, conflict management, problem-solving, character development, citizenship and organizational skills.

Each session of NYLP offers students the opportunity to learn about these leadership traits and how to apply them at home and in school. Through NYLP's hands-on learning activities, young leaders practice effective organizational and communication skills, apply conflict resolution strategies and learn how to set attainable goals for themselves. Students learn how to work independently and as part of a group to achieve a common objective, all while building their self-confidence and leadership skills.

The NYLP curriculum was developed by Dr. Marguerite C. Regan, a former teacher and social science department chairperson with a doctorate in political science from Purdue University. Dr. Regan has been involved in the creation and development of innovative educational curricula and programs for over 30 years. Under Dr. Regan's direction, the curriculum provides a unique approach to leadership training.
