We decided to do the fundraising because I really wanted to go on this trip…my parents said they would pay half if I raised the other half. I took the letter from your web site page and reworded it a little and mailed it to any business or company that my parents deal with. I waited a few weeks and started to get worried because I didn't receive any replies. Finally the letters and donations started to come in, little by little. It still wasn't enough so I sent out more letters. Finally, I made my quota and my parents helped with the rest.
I feel that the more businesses you know and deal with the better your chances are. Send your letter out to everyone. Use the phone book. I sent an outline with the letter telling potential sponsors what I would be doing at the Conference and immediately sent thank you notes back to the business as soon as I received their check.
My advice to students who are fundraising is don’t give up. There are people out there that will help you. Have a raffle or bake sale at school. I wanted to do all of that, but my time ran out because I was picked very fast to go to the Conference. I'm glad my parents let me go because it was a wonderful trip and I look forward to doing it again.
