Joe's Story
Total Raised: $1,843
When Joe first received his nomination for JrNYLC, we were elated, like many parents, but then the realization hit- this was a lot of money to raise in a small window of time. Joe obviously didn't think so, and he started almost immediately!

Door-to-door, business-to-business he canvassed the neighborhood, first walking, then on his bike. He was relentless. I had helped by drafting two letters for him- one for neighbors and friends and one for businesses (remember to put return addresses on both of these.) Every place he stopped, he told them about how he had been nominated and what the conference was all about- then he asked for sponsorship (he even asked for their returnable bottles and cans). 75% of the time he was successful.

We are so proud of him, especially since he has done it again! Joseph was nominate to attend the Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference this upcoming January and in a matter of five very short weeks, he has raised almost 100% of the funds. We did do things a bit differently this time. For one, a new airline announced that it would begin flying out of the Buffalo Airport the day after Joe received his letter, so we contacted them and asked if they could sponsor his flight. They have responded positively. Also a few of the local businesses have offered gift certificates as sponsorships so we are planning on running a raffle to help cover the cost of the new clothes that are needed as well as film and processing (Joe likes to take pictures.)

In Joe's case, his outgoing personality as well as perseverance has paid off. He thinks positively and in turn makes his dreams come true. Don't give up!
